Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a District leader:
I have worked as an online marketing professional since 2011 for a variety of clients, both corporate as well as in the non profit space. I have led teams and been a subordinate in teams. I have the acumen to lead and to be led. I am also eminently teachable.
What experience do you have in strategic planning?
I have planned online marketing strategies for clients and am well versed in integrating said strategies into the broader goal set for a company or an individual in order to actualise a desired outcome.
What experience do you have in the area of finance?
I am well versed in using Excel to record financial transactions. I have a grasp of basic accounting. Apart from doing bookkeeping for my own business, Will Scott Media (Pty Ltd), my experience is limited regarding doing this for others.
What experience do you have in developing procedures?
As with the aforementioned strategy planning for clients, I have been part of- as well as led- teams regarding setting goals (targets), formulating policy, implementation of actionables, as well as reviewing KPIs / KPAs in terms of results assessment and carry over.
What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?
Obviously, my experience regarding the "nuts and bolts" side of strategising, implementing, and reviewing plans of action means that I can duplicate these in any situation, allowing for a variety of outcomes to be realized. My biggest take-away from leading, however, was my experience of people and how they operate within a team. I work well with others and know how to get results from them.
Why do you want to serve as a District leader?
One of my greatest passions is education and learning. Serving in Toastmasters allows me to "pay it forward" by empowering others in setting an example of good leadership and affecting the transfer of knowledge and skills.
In your opinion, what are the District mission’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?
The District facilitates club growth which, in turn, puts people in safe, supportive environments to allow for education, personal growth, and the fostering of leadership. My role would be to offer support and guidance to those in my charge to expediate this process, thereby sharing the Toastmasters opportunity with as many people as possible.
Additional information about yourself
I am a goal driven individual. I am also a perfectionist. I will always aim for the highest possible standard or outcome. I have been very fortunate in life to have had the opportunities that I have had and I believe it to be my duty to afford the fruits of those to as many people as I can. In this life we are called to be servants first.
