Every year this time, enterprising Toastmasters take the leap to reach further with their speaking skills as the annual International Speech Contest launches in divisions around the district. For the past two months, club, area and division contests have tested the creativity and mettle of speakers and organisers who make these events a success. Congratulations to all the club, area and division winners. On Saturday, 8 May, twelve division level finalists vie for the honour to represent District 74 in the regional contest. To make sure you don’t miss this grand finale, during the Lekgotla La District 74 Conference, book your virtual front seat on www.maycon.co.za
As we wrap up our divisions speech contests and move on to the district contest, I caught up with Kay Terera, the current Southern Africa International Public Speaking Champion and asked her to share public speaking tips, tricks and best practices in this edition as she prepares to hand over the baton.
How much are you worth? Are you worth at least 25 cents a day? A mere 25 cents? What am I talking about? It’s the daily cost of your Toastmasters membership for an entire year! Whether you look at it as $90 per year, $45 for six months, $7.50 per month, or 25¢ per day, the financial investment in yourself for professional and personal development is literally pocket change.
I know most people think of “change” as a bad thing, but it truly is an investment. You joined Toastmasters because you wanted to become a better speaker/communicator/leader, increase your self-esteem and confidence, improve your impromptu speaking skills, or a variety of other reasons.
