Southern Africa Toastmasters adopts the Pathways Learning Experience, a modernised education program

The new program delivers skills needed in the workplace

Johannesburg, South Africa, July. 04, 2018 – Southern Africa Toastmasters, a district of Toastmasters International, a world leader in communication and leadership development, launched the Pathways learning experience in 2018. The Toastmasters Pathways learning experience is a modernised learning experience suited to a changing global society.

“History records companies like Nokia and BlackBerry that did not adapt to needs of their customers. They were giants in the telecoms world, but they failed to adapt and to date they have not recovered. Pathways brings interactive, customised and flexible learning and offers expanded skill development and competencies that users can apply in their careers, personal lives and in the community,” says Aldrige Vengesai, a Toastmasters International Pathways Ambassador in Southern Africa.

Pathways marks the first complete redesign of Toastmasters’ education program since the organisation was founded in 1924. Highlighted by interactive, customised and flexible learning, Pathways offers expanded skill development and competencies that users can apply in their careers, personal lives and in the community.

Users will leverage the skills learned through the Pathways learning experience to advance their careers and employers around the world, including Accenture, PWC, ABSA and General Electric are using Pathways to develop and enhance skills of their workforce.

“The Pathways curriculum enhances our experience by providing a customised, online approach to our leadership and communication journey,” says Enid Katorobo, Head of Financial Control, ‎Barclays Bank Mozambique.

Pathways offers contemporary skills that can be applied in a variety of practical settings and brings a renewed focus on leadership learning and competencies that have immediate real-world applicability and online accessibility.

The Pathways program highlights include:

  • 10 different learning paths to choose from
  • More than 14 projects in each path
  • 5 core competencies (Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Management, Strategic Leadership, and Confidence)
  • More than 300 unique competencies
  • Content available online and in print materials.

Pathways is the most significant change initiative ever undertaken by Toastmasters International. The result is a major increase in the learning opportunities available to our current and future members. The Pathways learning experience remains consistent with the original vision of Ralph Smedley, Toastmasters founder, and maintains what members love about the organisation, which is the Toastmasters club experience.
