While I forget exactly when I first met Merryl, I will never forget Merryl.
Merryl was such a passionate, determined and driven individual. You could always count on her to do what needed to be done. She engaged wholeheartedly and you could equally count on her to speak her mind.
I was privileged to have Merryl serve as a Division Governor during my term as District Governor. It was during that year that she moved to Cape Town. I still recall the conversation about how to handle the move. Though I forget if she asked or I suggested that she continue in her role, leading from Cape Town, she took that challenge on and led the division effectively. She showed what can be achieved with dedication and commitment.
Throughout my time as a leader within Toastmasters, Merryl was always incredibly supportive and encouraging. I often felt the doubts and uncertainties that I think many feel and Merryl had a way of always giving me a boost, making me feel appreciated and valued. You will be missed.
I can’t think about Merryl without also remembering the many District conferences. The camaraderie and fun times as a group were special times. You will be missed.
I hoist a glass in your honour, Merryl, I’ll never forget you.
