“In service we become distinguished” – DTM Dorothy Chanakira

She truly believes in and lives up to this statement. Always eager and willing to serve, she made me feel like I had arrived home when I joined Evolving Ladies Toastmasters Club of Harare, Zimbabwe, in June 2019. I had been searching for a club where I could grow and be supported as I evolve into the leader I want to become. DTM Dorothy took me under her wing and showed me what it took to be a leader when I was appointed to my first role as Evolving Ladies’ Sergeant at Arms, soon after becoming a member of the club. My mentor helped me achieve my goals as I took on this leadership role as well as my personal development goals which include attaining my first DTM title. She encouraged me to organise French lessons for the club members in preparation for the International Toastmasters Convention in France 2020. DTM Dorothy inspires me to serve as she serves in the District and beyond. Through her encouragement I am currently assisting our Division Z Director Trynos Dongo and I am forever grateful to my mentor for her guidance and encouragement from the moment I embarked on this Toastmasters journey.
