More than once, six years ago, I was invited to a Toastmasters meeting by DTM Jahon. Back then, I had no idea what it was all about and I ignored the invite. Four years later, when I then desperately needed the effective communication skills set in my skills purse, I came across a reference giving Toastmasters as one of the available avenues, whilst reading up a book on the “Art of Public Speaking,” by Stephen E. Lucas in 2019. At this point I reached out to Jahon for a recommendation and he didn’t take me seriously. Fast forward, I am now part of the Madison Toastmasters Club in Lusaka. I am currently working on my first Level One project which I’m aiming to complete next month. The club President and my mentor have really been supportive. They regularly check on me to ensure that I strive for progress. My progress has been gradual but I’m shooting for a DTM by end of next year.
