The World Champions of Public Speaking Finals is held at the Toastmasters Convention in August every year. It starts at club level in more than 15900 clubs in 142 countries in the world.

What a privilege for us at Eagles to get our members to experience a memorable contest. As John Bercow said that, “History is more than the path left by the past. It can influence the present and can shape the future.”

22 March 2019 was a day in the history of Eagles Toastmasters in Zambia. The future was shaped and the present was influenced in ways more than literature can record when a new Club Eagles Toastmasters Club, hosted a club contest which felt like the International Speech contest final. Being the new baby on the block did not deter us. We went all out for this event.

The meeting started on a high note as the ice breakers who spoke seemed to have been possessed with the spirit of the contest and championship. They were competent and unbelievable for ice breakers. As if they were forerunners for the contest, they set the pace and spread out the meraki for the speech contestants. When it was the time for the speech contest, it was both amazing and therapeutical. The contest left an invaluable mark in the history of Toastmasters Zambia. The contestants in the international speech contest, Olly, Barnabas and Ibrahim literally made it historical. If Smedley was in the Eagles Toastmasters Club contest, I imagine that he would say, “Eagles Toastmasters Club Zambia, you are hugely part of the reason why Toastmasters International was birthed.” A baby of just merely 8 months, Eagles Toastmasters Club, hosted a first contest which will be remembered beyond memory.

Barnabas was crowned International speech contest champion for Eagles Toastmasters Club seconded by Olly and third was Ibrahim. Olly was crowned both as table topics champion and evaluations winner for Eagles Toastmasters Club.

Without doubt, Zambia will remember this mark which Eagles Toastmasters Club has left in the existence of the legacy of Toastmasters. In this year of people making History, Eagles Toastmasters Club has written their Chapter and it has been sealed.
