On A Point – Toastmasters Southern Africa – District Newsletter

Time to Celebrate

What a great year!  As I bid you a fond farewell, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the outgoing 2016-2017 leadership teams. Thank you for serving the members of Southern Africa and for leaving behind such a strong legacy.  There is no doubt that we are “better together” and as we end the Toastmasters year please take some time to celebrate!  The warm glow of success is shining upon you.

Also a big thank you to our members.  This year has been all about you.  Well done on pursuing your goals and investing in your personal development.  It has been a pleasure sharing your journey and I wish you every success in the year ahead. Please celebrate every milestone you have achieved!

With that, I bid you a fond farewell and hand you over to the 2017 – 2018 District Director – Keith Bowen DTM.

Sandra Cooper – Immediate Past District Director

Welcoming in the New Year

At this time of the year across District new leaders are taking up their assignments and making plans for the year ahead.  It is a great time of energy and hope, dreaming of what each can achieve in their new portfolio.

There will be approximately 1400 club officers who are taking up new positions eager to serve their members and hoping to leave a legacy of excellence.  Similarly there are 62 District leaders that have accepted responsibility to support these club officers and in turn the members they serve.   And everyone is focused on ensuring that members achieve their goals and spreading the benefits of Toastmasters further into communities and organisations.

Last weekend, at the Division S Club Officer Training, I described our mission as “merchants of confidence” because, as Toastmasters, we are dedicated to helping individuals become more self-assured, whether through public speaking skills or leadership skills.  Just one assignment in the Competent Communicator manual will start a member toward being more confident; similarly taking on a leadership role in the club starts a member on a road toward unleashing their leadership potential.

I wish you all a great year ahead and may you achieve your goals.

Keith Bowen DTM – District Director
