Accelerating growth with the Division A Director, Vusi Maupa

One way of measuring good leadership is by counting how many people you have moved from the level you found them at, to the next level of their leadership potential.

– Vusi Maupa – Division A Director

It goes without saying that these are moments of uncertainties. Big changes  are causing big stresses, unexpected occurrences and so the list goes on. As a Toastmaster, the Pretoria based Division A Director, Vusi Maupa understands the task at hand and he is a man on an acceleration mission.

Dubbed the Mayor of Pretoria Toastmasters, Vusi has been on his leadership journey for more than half of his life. Explaining how it all began, the 31 year old leader who works for the SA National Treasury said, “I was in the school’s debating club since grade 9 and I took on leadership roles at school, up to Vice President. I was also involved in the Student Parliament at University.” Since then, there has been no stopping him as he has gone on to be a Treasurer first, in 2018, then a short-lived President of the President Club, who unexpectedly got promoted to the Area Director role in 2019. Naturally, he is now a Division Director.

On what needs to be done, Vusi said it’s about growing the number of clubs in Division A, member support and retention and ensuring that all club officers serve their full term. He remarked, “The role itself is about teamwork and support. I look forward to teaming up with my Area Directors in supporting the individual and club growth of our 20 clubs by accelerating members’ learning and development. Accelerating growth is our theme for the year.” The four Area Directors working with Vusi are, Talent Muzambi of Area A1, Lerato Nonyane who heads Area A2, Paul Tylor whose jurisdiction is Area A3 and Juliet Garande in charge of Area A4.

The Division A Director and his supporting team of leaders

Vusi draws inspiration from DTM Gao Molebalwa, his and the division’s mentor and from observing notable traits from several world renowned leaders and gurus, including Barack Obama, John Maxwell, Robert Mugabe, Nelson Mandela and Julius Malema.

This transformational and transactional leader asserts that “One way of measuring good leadership is by counting how many people you have moved from the level you found them at, to the next level of their leadership potential.” His parting shot was inviting, “In Division A, we are leaders whose hallmark is serving others and we have an open door policy. Come, let’s work together.”
