In 2018 I enrolled for an MBA at the Wits Business School. This is where I met Dr Pheladi Mohlala. At the time we were both working for Sasol. We shared the same passion for personal development and developing young professionals. When I left Sasol and joined Proconics, we remained in the same geographical area and attended Toastmasters clubs within this same vicinity.
After realising that a corporate club will serve our needs better, the idea of an Open Corporate Club was conceived. The targeted audience is young professionals who are present in large numbers in Vanderbijlpark. This idea was shelved until our MBA graduation dinner where one of the questions was “MBA done, what’s next?” We both knew what needed to be done, unshelving the idea and start working towards chartering a club. We had numerous meetings during the festive season, preparing to charter in early January 2021. Covid 19 proved to be our main challenge. One of the critical deciding factors was getting buy-in from our Corporate Sponsor- Proconics. As it turned out, it was not difficult to pitch the idea seemingly as if they were waiting for it.
As President of this newly minted club, I’m very fortunate to have, in my arsenal, an executive committee of young and vibrant engineers who are ready to serve. These individuals answered the call and have been part of our success so far. I’m looking forward to growing the club with my team and help bring a positive impact in our professional community.
